Jo McGrath appointed  as Sector3 Chief Executive

Jo McGrath has been appointed as Chief Executive of Sector3, Stockport’s charity infrastructure support network, to steer the organisation through 2021 and beyond.

The decision was made after a robust three part process with the support of specialist non-profit recruitment agency Prospectus and a representative group from the local third sector in Stockport.

Jo has been Strategic Lead for Sector3 since October 2019 and has successfully led the development of Sector3 over that time.

Steve Hughes, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Sector3 said:

“The board were keen to ensure that the recruitment process for our first CEO was robust, fair and diverse.  By partnering with Prospectus, we ensured we had a diverse range of candidates, all bringing a unique set of skills to consider. The three part interview process tested the candidates skills and competency for the exciting but challenging role.”

“Throughout the selection process Jo stood out as a strong, inclusive and dynamic leader. Jo will work with myself, the Board of Trustees and the sector to push forward our organisation and deliver our ambitious strategy to create healthy and inclusive communities, for all.”

“Thank you to the representatives from the sector who engaged in the process, to our independent member who supported the board throughout the process and to Prospectus.  We are confident we have a great new CEO in Jo and we are looking forward to continuing on this journey with her.”

A committed figure in the voluntary, charity, faith and social enterprise sector over the past 20 years including co-founding and Directing Greater Manchester organisation Flourish CIC, Jo has direct experience working on the ground in the sector and is acutely aware of the challenges it faces.

Jo is also a member of the the GM Social Enterprise Advisory Group, which has been set up to advise on the delivery of the ambition for social enterprise in Greater Manchester.

On the new role Jo said:

“As CEO, my focus will be to develop Sector3 into a trusted, respected and independent resource for the Voluntary Community, Faith and Social Enterprise Sector here in Stockport.

It’s my purpose to ensure we support our fantastic VCFSE sector to navigate the challenges ahead. The impact of Covid-19 has seen an unprecedented increase in demand on their services and a drastic decrease in funding for the sector. I will work with the sector, strategically, practically and most importantly collaboratively to ensure the sector survives the impact of the pandemic.”

Jo starts her new role officially on Thursday 15th April.

Launched in 2020 to support the sector during a time of financial uncertainty and rising demand, Sector3 now offers an online forum for local organisations and groups to meet, capacity building opportunities in partnership with local VCFSE’s and a website containing the latest resources for development. In addition to this Sector3 have set up their own funding programs, solely aimed at supporting Stockport organisations in delivering frontline services.
