Proper Good Pop-Up Shop Coming to Merseyway – Discover Gifts That Give Back

STOCK LOCAL. SHOP SOCIAL

This November, the Proper Good Pop-Up Shop is coming to the Pop-Up Space in Merseyway Shopping Centre, running from 18th to 23rd November. The shop will showcase a vibrant mix of local social enterprises, offering unique products including arts and crafts, gifts, plants, and more, just in time for the festive season.

This is a chance to spend with purpose. Every purchase made at the Proper Good Pop-Up Shop goes towards supporting Stockport residents, with money reinvested into community wellbeing, local jobs and greener neighbourhoods.

Jo McGrath, CEO of Sector 3, organisers of the Proper Good Pop-Up Shop says,

"We're thrilled to be taking over the Pop-Up space in Merseyway Shopping Centre as part of our celebrations for National Social Enterprise Day [20th November]. This central location offers a fantastic opportunity to highlight both the innovation and impact of our local social enterprises, to a diverse audience. Not only will the shop help generate vital income for Social Enterprises, but it will also raise awareness of the meaningful work these organisations do within our community and how you can shop and give back at the same time"

The value of Social Enterprises in Stockport

A survey conducted earlier this year revealed:

  • Stockport is home to at least 297 social enterprises, generating over £395 million in annual turnover and supporting more than 9,886 jobs

  • The top 10 Stockport social enterprises account for over 9,000 jobs, showing that Stockport has some of the largest and most established Social Enterprises in the country

  • Over 100 social enterprises in Stockport have been active for more than 10 years, yet there is also a strong pipeline of new ventures.

  • Operate across 10+ sectors including:

  • Health, care & education (30%)

  • Financial, admin & professional (22%)

  • Arts, entertainment & creative (18%)

These findings underscore the vital role our local Social Enterprise sector plays as a dynamic economic and social force, deeply rooted in our communities and increasingly diverse in size, age, and industry."

Why Shop Social?

Social Enterprises are businesses that invest a portion of their profits into good causes, related to their social mission.

As a designated ‘Social Enterprise Place’, Stockport is packed with Social Enterprises, offering valuable products and services with a positive purpose. From pottery classes to yoga and public art installations; Social Enterprises are redefining the high street here in Stockport and in many places across the UK.

In Stockport, social enterprises are playing a key role in addressing local challenges. The borough is the 8th most polarised in England, with significant disparities in education and life expectancy. Social enterprises are stepping up to meet these needs, offering creative solutions and community-led services, driven by need.
