After having two children she returned to the field via a degree in Professional Studies of Learning Disabilities & further studies. This ignited a political awareness and served as an introduction to advocacy. Driven by her experience working in the large institutions in the 80’s, Mary started Stockport Advocacy in 2004 with the service growing to now obtain the contract for delivering Independent Mental Health/Care Act and NHS Advocacy.

Mary also sits on the board of Healthwatch Oldham to give something back to the NHS out of respect for the care given to her parents in their later life.

On joining Sector3 as a Trustee, Mary commented:

“The voluntary sector in Stockport is important to organisations such as ours.  We need to support, invest & nurture one another, regardless of size or cause if we are to grow and survive to strengthen the people we serve.

Our organisation would not be where it is today without such scaffolding from peers.”
